#49 Today Was A Fairytale - Taylor Swift

Saw Valentine's Day today. It was pretty lame. I wanted to like it much more than I did. Shame.

And Taylor Swift is a bad actress. Really bad. Cute song though.

One more day of work!

#48 Sexual Healing - Marvin Gaye

I can hear this from my bedroom. It's not as saucy as it sounds, sadly. More like a standard musical night in St Kevin's Arcade. They might be noisy, but at least they have good taste in music!

#47 Summertime - Ella Fitzgerald

It's so flippin hot at the moment. Not 'nice' hot, more icky muggy hot.

Not cool, but gosh I love this song.

#46 The Bitch Is Back - Elton John

My old boss cam back today. Not something we were looking forward to. But, on the upside, I only have to put up with her for the next 3 days. Whooop whooop. That's right, Friday and I am out of there. But I will go into that closer to the time.

Let's just ponder the joy of Elton and nastiness.

#45 Nicest Thing - Kate Nash

I like this song. I like this video. Kind of perfect for Valentine's Day. It reminds me of my friend who has just been rejected by the boy she thought was the perfect boy. No, they hadn't gone past the 'friends' stage, but apparently, that's as far as they will ever go.

I know that pain.

But at least V Day is done and dusted for another year. Phew.

#44 Show Me Love - Robyn

We had a bit of a Sweedish pop afternoon. This song was sung, loudly (in my head) while walking down Ponsonby Rd. Then we went secondhand book shopping with Serj from SOAD. It was weird.

#43 Strawberry Fields - Artisan Guns

Went to be cheerleader for A's gentleman caller's band last night when they supported these guys.

A and I now madly love the bassist. He has a pony tail. Swoon.

#42 Alas I cannot Swim - Laura Marling

I stumbled on this song and this video tonight. It is so adorable, that I think I might love it more than just a little.

MusicANDmuffins have a whole series of songs put to animation. Wait, that should be the other way around, right?

Anyway. Super cute and lovely and it made me smile on a night where I am full to the brim of afghan cookies - both cooked and uncooked. Lovely J made some for her work and her boy, and we got to test them before the unsuspecting public. They were delish! But now I feel quite sick and I think sleeping might be tricky.

Mmmm, my bedroom smells like baked goods. I will have super sweet dreams tonight.

#41 Tiny Dancer - Elton John

I had a lovely day today. I took a 'mental health' day from work - well, actually I spent most of the day working on a presantation that I am meant to be giving tomorrow (on blogging - ha!) so it wasn't really a day off at all.

I did go and have a nosey around a cute little shop just around the corner from me though. I is called Tiny Space and it is quite mimi. But they had some lovely stuff - pretty clothes, fun shoes and bags for Africa. I will be going back very soon to make some purchases. Yay.

I'm on the continual look out for some black 'boy' boots (as I call them). Just little, flat, leather lace-up boots. And I just can't find any in my size. There is a shop upstairs that sells them (they get them on their buying trips overseas) but they don't have any that seem to fit my baby feet perfectly. I am holding out though. I will find them!!!! And they will turn me into Alexa once and for all.

And on a side note, I have a nice new duvet cover on my bed and it looks pretty and delicious. I love duvets!!!

#40 Happy Birthday - The Beatles

Yes, this is turning into the Beatles blog. That will change. Honest.

But this is for J and Boy and N who are all celebrating birthdays today. Yay for birthdays!! J, who we spent tonight with, even got some Ollie Driver action (well he was at the same bar. Delight.

Made me start to think about mine. Not long now - and I always said 26 was going to be the bestest year ever. Time will tell.

#39 I'll be back - The Beatles

I am going to be a Beatles expert soon. If I ever entered a tv game show, and needed a specialist subject, I think I could quite easily nominate The Beatles 1960-1964. In about an hour, I could probably extend that out to 1965.

I'm watching the Anthology box set. It's quite long. 11 hours to be a bit more precise. But I figure I may as well. There are worse ways to spend your evenings, right? Anyway, I have learnt quite a lot of useless info in the past 3 hours (not all in one go - it's ok!) but mainly I have realised that I quite like them. Yes, I'm sure I should have realised this well before now, but I hadn't. I mean, sure, I liked them, knew the words to most of the songs all of that, but I actually really LIKE them now. So much so, I think the next purchases will be the back catalogue. In chronological order of course - we're going to do this right.

Anyway, I have one more part to watch before bed, so I will go and do that now, and most probably change my favourite Beatle in the process (that has happened quite a bit in the past few hours....I just can't commit to one!)

In the meantime, this is a lovely song that I didn't really know until the end of the third part. I like John just for this.

#38 Midlake - Roscoe

I bought the new Midlake album yesterday. But I like this album a lot. I haven't listened to the new one yet. We will see.

#37 There Is A Field - The Checks

Tired. Home late. Forgot to post. Saw these boys. It was cool. Going back to napping.

#36 Perfect - Fairground Attraction

Bit of a weird day. It was the the anniversary of the death of G's sister today, so we were instructed to keep her entertained tonight. Plan of attack: food, drinks and a trip up a hill in Devonport to look at the pretty city lights.

It was all going very well until we got to Devonport. Turns out we couldn't get up the hill - they close it off because of all the naughty little boy racers, or something. So we picked a waterfront locale instead....only to have the car battery die on us when we decided to head home!

Luckily, we were right by the ferry and managed to boat-home. Phew. But before we left R managed to make friends with some local navy boys, one of whom decided to jump in the boot of J's car (it was raining. He was getting wet.) He was your A-typical 18 year old. And we are not your typical bunch. It was hilarious.

Anyway, this song provided a nice sing-a-long moment in the taxi ride home....

#35 Future Sailors - Mighty Boosh

I'm now in a band. Well, kind of. A and I have decided that our 'talents' are being wasted, and so we're going to channel them into a musical extravaganza. We even have a name - The Ginger Beards. It's good, right? Mainly because I am ginger and we both like, but are lacking, facial hair.

I am going to have glockenspiel duties, A is on keys. We will be play hardcore atmospheric twee. And only cover Disney songs. And Kelly Clarkson. And Mandy Moore. Seriously good, right?

Basically, we will be like the Mighty Boosh, but girls, with less good hair and less electro awesomeness. We will be much more understated and subtly brilliant.

I think stardom might just be calling my name....

#34 I'll follow the sun - The Quarrymen

Ok, so here is another movie-inspired choice. I guess this means one of two things: 1) I watch too many movies or 2) a lot of movies have reasonably inspiring music references.

Meh, it's probably the first one.

So I got a preview disc of Nowhere Boy - the John Lennon biopic - from work. Man, sometimes this job has some almost decent perks. Sometimes.

It was a really interesting movie. Personally, I have always been a George fan - have you heard 'Something'? 'Here comes the sun'? The man is a genius.

Anyway, distracted. So Lennon has never been of great interest to me. I guess I always though of him as the one with the crazy lady-friend who pissed everyone else off enough to cause the band to break up. Good one buddy. But this movie was a bit of an insight into young John. And a good insight 'twas.

Plus I was fascinated to see this kid playing John. Mainly because he and the director have fallen in love and are having a baby and he's about 12. Well, maybe a touch older, but not much. Hey, I like scandal!

But he was great. The movie was great. The soundtrack was great. And I got to watch it before it's out at the movies. GREAT!

p.s. It also had David Morrisey in it and I heart him. He is my favourite David after the Tennant.

#33 Rabbit Heart - Florence and the Machine

I am still on a bit of a happy buzz from Laneway. Which is good, because work is quite lame at the moment and there are a couple of flat/boy dramas going on at the moment. So happy thoughts are always welcome.

Florence is the ultimate happy thought!! Super fun!

#32 Crystalised - The xx

Dear Mr/Ms Laneway.

I would like to start by thanking you for inviting me to your gathering. I must say that you certainly did put on quite a show for us all. It was very pleasant.

My favourites? I am glad you asked Dr Laneway. I very much enjoyed Family Cactus. And Lady Florence and her Machine were superb. Echo and all those naughty little Bunnymen were a once in a life time-er. But The xx might just have won out over them all. Their shy, polite, English banter made me smile and want to take them out for a scone. And perhaps a cup of tea. Plus they sounded pretty rad.

If I was to make one small suggestion for next year, it would be to possible look into getting some seats. I'm not thinking of anything flash or showy, maybe just some of the cheap white plastic ones from the Warehouse. I'm sure you could get them in an after-Christmas sale.

Oh, and could you please remind me that I am pale, and even if it is somewhat drizzley, I will still burn. Like a peach. Just like this year.

Again, thank you for a wonderful outing, and I look forward to doing it all over again next year.

Kindest Regards

B. Jones

#31 Still Fond - Cut Off Your Hands

Yay. Long weekend Sunday filled with cupcakes, cleaning and catching up with friends I haven't seen in ages. Brilliant way tp spend 24 hours. However I am puzzled by the lack of nail polish remover in supermarkets. Very odd indeed.

I am seeing these guys tomorrow - eek! Laneway is going to be the best day out for everer. Excitement!!!
